"Why College" Essays

This prompt evaluates how deeply you’ve explored your chosen universities. It’s your chance to demonstrate your obsession, in a good way, with the university.

  • Research is key: Don't just skim a university’s website. Dive deeper into specific programs, professors’ work, clubs, or unique traditions. It doesn't require endless days; with focused strategies, you can become an expert in just a few hours.

For instance, don’t just mention a popular club—choose specific and unique ones. Mention a research opportunity that genuinely excites you, a professor whose work aligns with your passions, or an intriguing fun fact.

Example:

I approached this essay as a letter from my future self, complete with an email format, imagining that I had already graduated from "X University." I described how I contributed to a specific club, worked with Professor Y on exciting research, and founded my own club related closely to the university's values.

That’s an example that some people were against it yet impressed others. That’s a major difference between supplemental essays and personal statement. They already knew about you on your PS but they wanna see how will that person contribute to our place giving you the opportunity to be creative yet to the point.
